Euro 2020 final: Nigeria coach Rohr predicts winner between England and Italy

The European Championship closes on Sunday with England and Italy battling it out in the final

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr is supporting England to win the Euro 2020 final against Italy at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

The German tactician believes Gareth Southgate’s team is a more complete team with a better tactical approach than the Italians.

England will play in the final of a major tournament for the first time since 1966, when they won the Fifa World Cup on home soil after defeating West Germany 4-2.

The Three Lions defeated Denmark 2-1 on Wednesday after a tense 120-minute football match at Wembley, while Italy booked their place for Sunday’s match after beating Spain 4-2 in the penalties, after a 1-1 draw equal at the end of the extra time.

However, Rohr condemned England supporters for barking at Denmark during their national anthem – a case that Uefa is investigating and they have subsequently charged the English team.

The 68-year-old asked him about the team that will emerge victorious on Sunday. Nation Sports: “England are of course favorites at home. They are a complete team, physically and tactically above.

“The fans are a big support, but I regret their attitude to whistle the opponents, even the national anthem.”

Although he supports the Southgate team, the former Bordeaux and Gabon coach said he expects a ‘nice’ meeting at Wembley regarding both teams’ style of play.

“I think Italy can be an outsider, solid bloc with quick counter-attacks,” he continued.

‘Both teams can play with three or four in defense. Many teams now have a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 organization, evolution, defense and attack together.

“So, a nice final on Sunday. Every ambitious team today must be able to play in different systems, defend together and attack. ”

England have yet to win the European Uefa Championship in their football history and their best final was in 1968 when they won their third place.

Italy, on the other hand, lifted the coveted European trophy only once in 1968 when they defeated Yugoslavia 2-0 in a rematch in Rome.

Portugal are the defending champions, while Germany and Spain are the most successful teams in the tournament’s history with three titles each.
