The main goal for everyone in the group is to try to win the series: Rahul Dravid
Senior opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan will lead the team in the absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma; Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been named as his deputy, while former Indian batting legend and head of the NCA, Rahul Dravid, has been named as the head coach for this tour.
There are several young players called up to the group, and a few who also return to the white ball team. However, Rahul Dravid said that the main goal of the contingent is to win the series and therefore they will put their best available Indian eleven on the field.
‘As you said, there are rightly many people in the group who are campaigning for places or want to cement their places in the kind of T20 World Cup. But the most important goal for everyone in the group and in the team is to try to win the series. We had discussions about it, ‘Dravid said during the pre-departure press conference.
“It simply came to our notice then. We are going there to win the series, hopefully people will have the opportunity to give good performances in the course of our effort to win the series and to slam the doors of the selectors, ”he added.
