The 56-year-old takes over from Lehlohonolo Seema who left the team for the Golden Arrows
PSL team Chippa United have confirmed the appointment of Gavin Hunt as their new coach ahead of the new season.
The Chilli Boys are restructuring for the new campaign in hopes of outperforming the offseason, where they finished 15th. Therefore, they chose to bring an experienced coach on board to help them perform better.
The Chilli Boys are expected to win two victories at Royal AM, which could not honor their play-offs due to their ongoing court battle with the PSL in which they try to be at the top of the 2020/21 NFD position again.
“Chippa United Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Gavin Hunt as the club’s new head coach,” the club announced on Wednesday.
“Welcome to the Eastern Cape, home of the Chilli Boys.”
The 56-year-old was fired by Kaizer Chiefs on May 28 after the Glamor Boys succumbed to a 2-1 defeat in front of a struggling Black Leopards team in a PSL encounter.
The skilled tactician joined Chiefs as replacement of Ernst Middendorp before the start of the 2020/21 campaign.
Hunt inherited a Chiefs team that finished second in the league in the 2019/20 season under Middendorp, and it is expected that he will take the team one step further in the future.
The Soweto giants, under Hunt’s leadership, struggled in domestic competitions with the club unable to sign new players due to the Fifa transfer ban.
However, Chiefs did well in the Caf Champions League with Hunt making history by leading the Soweto giants to the semi-finals for the first time in the club’s history, and they have since reached the final.
