Jos Buttler hits 68 when England beat Sri Lanka in first T20I

England downgraded Sri Lanka by eight wickets to open their Twenty20 series in Cardiff on Wednesday.

Jos Buttler’s unbeaten 68 took the lead at Sophia Gardens when England reached their target of 130 with 17 balls left. Sri Lanka were limited to 129 for 7 after winning the toss as Adil Rashid and Sam Curran each tipped two wickets. Dasun Shanaka led the visitor by 50.

Jason Roy and Buttler then combined for a first 80 before Roy was caught in the 10th over for Danushka Gunathilaka for 36.

Buttler kept hammering and 50 reached two innings later before David Malan was bowled for 7 by Isuru Udana to leave England 112 for 2.

Buttler and Jonny Bairstow, who finished 13 unbeaten, then gave England to his target.

The three-match series continues Thursday at Sophia Gardens.
