Koeman is ‘worried’ about Messi’s contract with Barcelona unable to reach agreement

As there are many issues with salary restrictions in Camp Nou, a talismanic presence could fall into the free agent coil

Ronald Koeman admits he is “concerned” about Lionel Messi’s contract situation, with the Argentine superstar is still a free agent dance as Barcelona cannot afford to implement a new agreement.

Problems with salary tax present many problems in Camp Nou, with the cost to be cut before the signing of the summer and those waiting for new conditions, can officially put the pen on paper.

Barca have known for some time that they have faced a significant headache with Ballon d’Or’s six-time winner Messi.

What was said?

There is confidence in Catalunya that an agreement will be reached, but Koeman, boss of Barca, admits that uncertainty does no one any favors.

The Dutchman told reporters at a golf event: “If everything is not right, you have to worry, I have confidence in the president [Joan Laporta] to solve this problem.

“It is important for the club and for the league that the best player in the world remains. Everyone must make an effort here.

“Laporta told me I need to be calm, that they are working on the matter and we are confident he will be there in a few more years.”

Koeman added about the need for clarity: ‘It is important to know which players you are going to have.

“We know there is a limit, we are in the preseason and there is work being done, but we already know that it is so until the end and we are used to it.”

The bigger picture

Barcelona has Sergio Aguero, Emerson Royal, Eric Garcia and Memphis Depay to move to Camp Nou this summer.

However, they have to wait to be registered due to the financial difficulties the Liga giants are experiencing.

Efforts are being made to unload those who are on the brink of a star-studded group, such as people like Junior Firpo and Jean-Clair Todibo.

Samuel Umtiti and Miralem Pjanic are among those Barca are keen to move on, while listening to Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho.
