No England: Finidi George predicts Euro 2020 champions

The African football icon identified the team as the champion of the European Football Championship, and excluded the Three Lions

Finidi George has tipped Spain or Italy to look like champions of the 2020 European Football Championship, overlooking England.

The quarterfinals of the competition begin on Friday night with eight teams battling it out to qualify for the final four.

The reigning champions, Portugal, were knocked out in the round of 16 after a 1-0 defeat against Belgium – thanks to Thorgan Hazard’s 42-minute onslaught at La Cartuja in Sevilla.

And the legendary wing of Ajax and Real Betis believe that La Furia Roja or Gli Azzurri will appear as champions when the final is played on July 11 at Wembley Stadium in London.

For him, both teams will use their experiences in the four-year-old European football showpiece.

“It’s hard, but I’m giving Spain or Italy a tip for the title,” George said. Purpose.

‘They have won it in the past and the experience is there – which I think will play a key role in determining the winner.

‘However, any team can produce surprises and win. You can never know because it’s football.

“Belgium have also shown that they need everything to come out as champions as well.”

Euro 2020 experienced many surprises with Switzerland rounding off the favorite France in the Round of 16, while the Czech Republic silenced the Netherlands 2-0 to tackle them.

Triple champion Germany fell to a 2-0 loss to England with Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane scoring the goals.

For the Uefa Champions League and the Africa Cup of Nations, the shock results are proof that there is no longer a backlog in European football.

“It shows that there is a big improvement in other European countries and that you are not allowed to eat any team in football,” he continued.

‘On paper, France and Germany were considered strong contenders to emerge winners, but the real work was done on the playing field.

‘They crashed out of the competition because I felt they were not doing their homework well. Euro 2020 is a tournament filled with surprises and that is what we are seeing. ”
