PCB Central Contracts: Babar Azam in Category ‘A’, Hafeez Omitted

Senior players Mohammed Hafeez and Haris Sohail, among others, were left out of a list of 20 Pakistani players who were given central contracts by the Pakistan Cricket Board on Friday.

Captain Babar Azam, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi were placed in the top tier of category A. The council did not disclose the exact amounts to be paid to the players.

Those who missed out included Hafeez, who was offered a mid-year contract early this year; Sohail; Asad Shafiq; Mohammad Abbas; Imad Wasim; and Shan Masood. Wahab Riaz and Shoaib Malik remain off the list like last year.

The PCB also dropped young batsman Haider Ali and fast bowler Naseem Shah from the contract list in the emerging category.

The PCB has a overall increase of 25 percent in the monthly containers for all four categories. The council said the match fee was compared in all formats for the national team for men.

A Council official explained that match fees of players in different categories differ in different formats based on seniority. “But now it has changed. There has been an increase in match fees of B, C and emerging categories in the Test, ODI and T20 format so that all players now get the same fees,” the Council said .

The 12-month contracts run from 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2022.

In category A, there will be no increase in the match fees for Test, ODI and T20I tests, while the prize fee for test matches in Category B will be increased by 15 percent, the match fee for ODI by 20 percent and the match fee for T20I by 25 percent.

PCB CEO Wasim Khan said it was a challenging task to select 20 players from a large pool of quality cricketers.

“In the new list, we saw eight new players emerge who have now been awarded central contracts. Due to the competitive nature of the central contract system, nine players who had contracts in 2020-’21 unfortunately missed this opportunity,” he said. he said. .

“The door remains firmly open for these players and they will continue to stay in the selectors’ plans. Comparing match fees means that all players who walk out together to represent Pakistan will receive the same match fees regardless of which category they are in. , whether they have a central contract or not, ‘he said.

The council said the list was finalized by a panel consisting of the director, Zakir Khan, director of international cricket; chief selector Mohammad Wasim; and director, High Performance, Nadeem Khan, who also consulted head coach Misbah-ul-Haq and captain Babar Azam as part of the process.
