Roman Reigns addresses his ThunderDome legacy and his approach to returning live fans to SmackDown

It can be hard for anyone to perform without attending live fans. Doing so for more than a year may feel nearly impossible, but since WWE has been looking to keep things rolling through the COVID-19 pandemic, some stars have shone. WWE’s universal champion, Roman Reigns, who became an elite artist and became a constant pinnacle of WWE programming.

As the promotion prepares to return to full-fledged events starting Friday night with SmackDown, Reigns is poised to show that the adjustments to his character over the past year can be transferred to the traditional wrestling environment.

Reigns talked about his legacy from the ThunderDome era before SmackDown and Sunday’s Money in the Bank’s pay-per-view, and really talks before he soon appears in his character on screen.

“The live crowd has always improved my presentation,” Reigns said. “My reactions have always been, if not the very best, definitely up there with the very best. I have now showcased the layers as an artist to be able to do it without a live audience. I have a strong hold on SmackDown and SmackDown is the best part of WWE, and it’s my best man.

“This is my legacy that came from the ThunderDome. There is no doubt that good content can be debated on social media and WWE.com to state these polls and try to make an argument. But there is no argument. Always carry the WWE product I’ve had for the past year, and I’m up to it. You can throw anyone out. We can try to be beautiful and say, ‘Oh, Bayley! She just got hurt. She was the best.’ “Come on, let’s not lie to ourselves. The tribal chief has been wearing the WWE for over a year now and it cannot be denied.”

Reigns did not act in the early days of the pandemic, an understandable decision because he struggled with leukemia over two different periods in his adult life. His surprise return to SummerSlam in 2020 has created momentum that has yet to slow down.

As a recognized dressing room leader, Reigns understands that some people may still have reservations about abandoning the ThunderDome’s virtual fan experience and returning to buildings full of vibrant crowds. Reigns said the general attitude in the locker room is positive.

“I would say that everyone is pretty excited. I would say, there can be questions for every individual that I can not answer. That enables me to return to what we do and to create an atmosphere and experience. like no other, it’s something I think everyone in the locker room and the grid wants to do, ‘Reigns said. “That was what it was with the ThunderDome and just had the ability to continue to provide entertainment for all our fans worldwide, who went through the battle of the pandemic and the closure and quarantine together, it was a wonderful experience. course and I think everyone is excited to come back and feel that energy and that audience. ‘

The return to live crowds could force Reigns to change some of the things his character has made such a hit of his fans since turning his heel. Reigns incorporated the dialogue into his contests in a way that works well in the controlled sound of the ThunderDome, but it can be harder to use the same result in front of a cheering, cheering and singing crowd.

Reigns acknowledges the need to be flexible as things move forward, but he expects to be able to navigate the necessary changes for continued success.

“I don’t think I can just get stuck in any mindset or pattern,” Reigns said. “Like everything, there is a degree of greatness to be able to develop and change. Sometimes there are some growth pains that go along with the mindset you have to go through to find the promised land. For me, I do not think it there is something I do not have to stay concrete. There are some things I would like to keep in mind, and some of these tools, the ThunderDome was a challenge and you had to show different layers and you had to get different tools and sharpen the tools and work on different parts There are many positive things we can convey to a living crowd, and there are other things we need to adjust and develop week-to-week in real time.

“Things like the dialogue with a live crowd are going to be different, but are also something that can be improved. There are different things, like hymns, that can happen within the moment, and that’s something I’ll be able to do. use my advantage and use it as an interaction tool. The technology is still the same, there are microphones and the cameras have microphones that can rotate to tackle the dialogue for the fans at home.At the same time we want to have that live enhance experience and show it to people watching at home to influence them to want to come to the actual show. It’s something you have to keep in mind, but I do not think there are negative things. It’s nothing other than positive. “
