English manager Gareth Southgate has confirmed that Bukayo Saka will be fit for Wednesday’s Euro 2020 semi-final against Denmark.
Saka had to miss the 4-0 victory over Ukraine in the quarter-finals on Saturday with a slight bruise he sustained during training.
But the English boss said the 19-year-old would be ready to go while England wanted to book a place in the European final for the first time.
What was said?
“He has to go well,” Southgate said of Saka.
‘He did make himself available for the [Ukraine] game, but we did not really have the chance to see him on the field and to work at the level we felt would justify the decision.
“He will train with the group again on Monday and he should be fine.”
How does Saka perform at Euro 2020?
The Arsenal man did not appear in any of England’s first two games, but he started their third match against the Czech Republic and was hugely impressive.
Saka was named UEFA’s Star of the Match against the Czech Republic, which made him a start in England’s last 16 match against Germany.
England will not be happy with the semi-finals
Southgate led England to the semi-finals at the 2018 World Cup, where the Three Lions were eliminated by Croatia.
While Southgate said England could be content with the final four three years ago, this time they have a different outlook.
“We’ve seen so many hoodoos or obstacles and I feel that this group of players will feel that this is just the next challenge,” he said.
‘The interesting part for us is that we would not feel completely satisfied if it was just a semi-final, but maybe three years ago, although there was a big disappointment after the semi-final, the feeling was that we would go a long way com.
“Now we have repeated what we did there, but it will not be enough to fulfill the group.”
