South Africa knock West Indies in the third T20 International (T20I) at the National Cricket Stadium in Grenada to take a 2-1 lead in the continuing series of five games. It was a nail-biting match that went to the wire where the visitors held their nerves and handed over a defeat by singles to the hosts.
Chase the target of 168, Tabraiz Shamsi, the leading bowler in T20Is, slowed down the home team’s score and made them pay for their money. He changed a game and helped the team defend the total. The spinner of the left arm picked up two valued scalps Evin Lewis (27) and Shimron Hetmyer (17) while conceding only 13 runs in his quota of 4 overs.
Apart from Shamsi, pacemaker Anrich Nortje also dropped a few wickets through the devastating batting duo of Nicholas Pooran (27) and Andre Russell (25).
No Windies batter could exceed the 30-run mark. But, Fabian Allen did raise hope for the host by hitting 14 deliveries out of 9. Out of those fourteen runs, 12 came in the last over, when West Indies needed 15 runs to win the match. Allen hit a four, a six and a pair in the final over, including a wide, bowled by Kagiso Rabada when South Africa finally won the exciting match by one run.
Earlier, Quinton de Kock showed his class and took West Indian bowlers to the cleaners. The explosive wicketkeeper-batsman scored 72 runs from just 51 deliveries using five fours and two maximum points.
Aiden Markram (23) and Rassie van der Dussen (32) made valuable contributions in the middle order to take South Africa’s total to 167/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
Obed McCoy was the choice of the bowler for the Kieron Pollard-led side. He scored a 4-wicket by conceding 22 runs in 4 overs.
Here’s how Twitter responded:
South Africa by one run, the margin between the teams seemed wider than that. Great effort especially in the last two overs. #WIvSA

What a win for South Africa by Just 1 Run vs West Indies in the 3rd T20I and taking a 2-1 lead. It’s a great game and South African bowlers defend the Total very well against WI Batters. Tabraiz Shamsi is once again the star with the ball and Nortje bowled well. #WIvsSA
