The LA forwards are one of the many sensational names excluded from the game against the best of League MX
Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez and Carlos Vela are among the top players in the MLS who ruled out Wednesday’s All-Star clash with League MX.
LA Galaxy’s Hernandez is dealing with a calf injury, while LAFC’s Vela has a quadratic problem.
They were selected to lead the 28-man MLS roster to the exhibition, but the league now has to lean on other stars to carry the torch.
What was said?
“Carlos’ quad has been bothering him throughout this season,” MLS head coach Bob Bradley told reporters on Monday. “We were very careful. It was just a long-term injury that hampered him all season.”
Hernandez, meanwhile, has not played in a game since June 26.
Who else will miss it?
New England Revolution stars Carles Gil and Tajon Buchanan also drew; Gil leads assists in the league and Buchanan comes from a Gold Cup performance that honored him as the Young Player of the Tournament.
Who will replace the MLS All-Star absentees?
So far, Rodolfo Pizarro and George Bello have been added to replace Gil and Buchanan, with the replacements for Hernandez and Vela yet to be determined.
The initial rosters were determined by a mix of fans, media and league votes, but Bradley will be responsible for determining replacements for those excluded due to injury.
