Andre Russell wreaked havoc on the St. Lucia Kings’ bowlers on Friday when he scored the fastest ever Caribbean Premier League (CPL) fifty off 14 balls in the third game of CPL 2021 while batting for Jamaica Tallawahs. JP Duminy previously held the record in the CPL when he took 15 balls to reach fifty for Barbados Tridents against Trinbago Knight Riders in 2019.
At the start of the 19th over, Andre Russell faced just one ball for a single. Then the marauder of the cricket ball left him mercilessly St Kitts. About the following two overs – which included 3 ball-holders – he would break 49 runs and reach the landmark on the last ball of the innings, with a boundary while the ball just eluded the hand of the fielder in depth.
His monstrous beat consists of 6 sixes and 3 fours and a pass rate of 357.14, helping his team to make a huge total of 255 runs — the second highest total ever achieved in the CPL. Left-arm player Wahab Riaz, who conceded 32 runs in the 19th over, eventually leaked 61 runs in 3 overs – the fourth most expensive three-over in T20 history. The 20th over, bowled by Obed McCoy, cost 22 runs.
This 14-ball streak by Andre Russell is the fifth fastest half-century in T20 history. Yuvraj Singh, Chris Gayle and Hazratullah Zazai each reached the beacon with 12 balls while Marcus Trescothick scored a fifty of 13 balls for Somerset in 2010.

Andre Russell to be seen in action in the UAE
Andre Russell returned to the T20 team from Western India this year with a view to the T20 World Cup in the UAE later this year. Before the World Cup, and after the CPL, he would show up for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the second half of IPL 2021.
In the first half of the season, the restless Jamaican hit a 22-ball against the Chennai Super Kings before hammering 45 * from 27 against the Delhi Capitals. He struck at a strike rate of 155.24. The pacer with his right arm also picked up a distance of five wickets against Indians from Mumbai.
KKR was placed in seventh place with only 2 wins and 5 losses. Although they miss the IPL play-offs, the West Indies are serious contenders for the T20 title.
