The Nigerian international scored his first goal of the 2021-22 campaign when the Gers scored a runaway victory over the Staggies
Rangers defeated Ross County 4-2 in the Scottish Premier League match on Sunday, with Nigerian international Joe Aribo scoring his first goal of the 2021-22 campaign.
The 25-year-old in his third league game of the season started the men of Steven Gerrard positively to inspire them to a victory in Victoria Park.
After bending Hibernian 3-0 for the last time, the Staggies wanted to return to victory against the Gers.
The visiting team had the first attempt only two minutes into the game, but Alfredo Morelos’ shot from the James Tavernier cross was blocked.
A few minutes later, Connor Goldson was close to putting Rangers ahead, but his header from the corner of Tavernier could not sail into the net.
In the 15th minute, Aribo broke the deadlock with an amazing strike. The Nigerian was found by Morelos’ defensive division and took the ball into the area before unleashing a beauty beyond the reach of goalkeeper Ross Laidlaw.
Four minutes later, Gerrard’s men doubled their advantage by Goldson – who rose above Alex Iacovitti – to pass Tavernier’s crossing past Laidlaw.
However, Harry Clarke reduced the deficit for the home side five minutes before half-time. Allan McGregor made a great save from Jordan White, but the ball bounced back to Clarke, who found the net.
Rangers continued their dominance in the second half, and they restored their advantage with two goals thanks to Morelos who benefited from good work from Glen Kamara.
Ross County scored their second goal of the evening in the 77th minute when White withdrew from the penalty spot after Calvin Bassey handled the ball in the penalty area.
Six minutes before full-time, substitute Scott Arfield gave the hosts the chance to equalize after sending off from close range.
While Leon Balogun was in action from start to finish, Aribo was replaced by Kemar Roofe with seven minutes of play.
Nigeria’s Nnamdi Ofoborh and Zambia’s Fashion Sakala were not expected to appear due to injury concerns.
Even with the win, Rangers are fifth in the record after scoring six points from three games. They host Celtic in their next match on 29 August.
