Villa eager

The youngster Smith Rowe obviously enjoyed an outbreak campaign in the English capital in 2020/21, after he finally got the chance to impress on a steady basis at the end of last year.

The Englishman has been widely touted as the long-term answer to Arsenal’s creative misery, with Smith Rowe’s extremely impressive stance already seeing him take a cult hero status among the club’s fans.

In turn, it came as something of a surprise earlier this summer when one of the Gunners’ Premier League rivals launched an active push to lure ESR out of North London.

Emirates lead

However, as outlined above, Arsenal went on to put the remaining speculations about the future of the club’s emerging midfielder to bed definitively on Thursday.

It comes in the form of a new long-term contract, which confirms the faith of both the club and Mikel Arteta in Smith Rowe’s talents.

In a message this afternoon on their social media platforms, the Gunners confirm that the 20-year-old has put pen to paper on fresh terms and bound him in the foreseeable future.

On the back of the news that was officially made, Mikel Arteta had the following to say:

‘I know the fans will be delighted that Emile has dedicated his future to the club. We look forward to helping him develop further and seeing him become even more important to the strong young team we are building. ‘

Perhaps even more notable than Smith Rowe’s new agreement itself, was the subsequent confirmation that the youngster had received a new jersey number from the Emirates.

And to say that ESR was honored would be taken lightly. The youngster was previously worn by the likes of Dennis Bergkamp and Mesut Ozil, and has been entrusted with the responsibility of Arsenal’s iconic No. 10.

The decision even led to Smith Rowe earning himself something of a tongue-in-cheek new nickname, in the form of ‘Smith Rowzil’.
