Awoniyi train with Salah, Mane and Keita as Liverpool start pre-season

The former youths in Nigeria were part of the Reds squad that trained on Monday when the Anfield giants began preparing for next season.

Taiwo Awoniyi was training with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita when Liverpool launched their pre-season campaign on Monday.

The former Nigeria youths have been included in the Premier League squad’s training tour in Austria with Cameroon’s Joel Matip and French star of Malian descent Ibrahima Konate.

Under the watchful eyes of manager Jurgen Klopp, the 23-year-old joined the Egypt, Senegal and Guinea international in training sessions ahead of their pre-season matches against FC Wacker Innsbruck and VfB Stuttgart which were charged on Tuesday 20 July.

“Today marks the start of a new campaign for us as we launch our pre-season training program in Austria,” said a read statement from club.

‘We say very welcome to Ibrahima Konate: just listen to James Milner and everything will be alright!

“It is also a reliable welcome for all the boys returning from their loan clubs; your experiences will definitely make us stronger during this preseason.

“Then, for all the young talents who have come with us, our message is a delight and keep this ‘updated’ phrase of Bob Paisley in your mind – we’re looking for a player to put Virgil van Dijk on his feet, but for him politely stepped aside and walked down the aisle.

“Some football rules will never change, that’s what I love so much about this game.”

Awoniyi was signed by Liverpool in 2015. However, he was loaned to FSV Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen, Moeskroen, Ghent, Mainz and Union Berlin due to work permit issues.

After receiving his long-awaited permit that would enable him to play in England, he would hope to break into Klopp’s squad in the 2021-22 campaign.

Last quarter, Awoniyi scored five goals in 21 German top flight matches, while Union Berlin of Urs Fischer finished in seventh place after piling up 50 points from 34 matches, qualifying them for the playoffs of the Europa Conference League.

The 19-time English top-flight champions begin their campaign with an away game against Norwich City on 14 August.
