Meanwhile, Tanzania’s Yanga SC will return to the continental scene with a clash with Nigeria’s Rivers United, while Ugandan Premier League champions Express travel to Sudan to tackle Al Merrikh.
According to the draw that took place at the Caf headquarters in Cairo on Friday, the defending champions Al Ahly of Egypt will start their title defense in the second round to beat the winner between the American Gendarmerie National (Niger) and Le Messager de Ngozi (Burundi) pack.
Simba SC of Tanzania, who reached the quarterfinals last season and lost to Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa, is one of the ten teams that got a farewell to the second and was therefore released from the draw.
Others are Raja Casablanca from Morocco, Esperance de Tunis (Tunisia), Zamalek (Egypt), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Horoya AC (Guinea), TP Mazembe (DR Congo), Etoile Sportive du Sahel (Tunisia) and Wydad ( Morocco).
