Chelsea boss Tuchel: Hudson-Odoi could be more dangerous on the left

The Blues won 2-1 over the Gunners in a preseason game played at the Emirates

Chelsea FC manager Thomas Tuchel conceded the decision to play Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic as wing was his plan B ahead of the Uefa Super Cup match against Villarreal.

The two played in that position when their team defeated Arsenal 2-1 in a friendly pre-season at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The Blues currently miss the services of Ben Chilwell, Emerson Palmieri and Reece James who were given a long vacation following assignments at their national teams. Cesar Azpilicueta is still not physically fit, while it is not clear if Marcos Alonso suffered an injury.

The match against the Spanish outfit is on August 11 in Windsor Park, Belfast, Northern Ireland, and the tactician has now revealed his plans for the match.

“Yes, maybe [Pulisic will play in that position against Villarreal], ‘Tuchel told Hayters TV as quoted by The Chelsea Chronicle.

‘He played there with me at Dortmund – and we’ve played with Callum like that many times [Hudson-Odoi]. Marcos [Alonso] could not play [on Sunday].

‘So we put Callum on the left, and that’s what I wanted to see for a long time if he might be more dangerous from this position with his dribbling inside – which he loves and he did it. [against Arsenal].

The former PSG manager further explained why it was ideal to try the duo against the Gunners.

“You know our situation. We have it [Azpi and Reece] for the right-back position, but both are not here, ‚ÄĚTuchel continued.

‘We need solutions because we start on the 11th against Villarreal and the 14th for the [Premier League] season. We [could] then do not try things, so it’s time to see. “

The Champions League winners play against another friendly that will be played on July 4 against Tottenham Hotspur before playing against Villarreal. Their first league assignment is at home against Crystal Palace on 14 August.
