It seems unlikely that the Blues will do any day signing on the deadline unless there is a remarkable late bid for an important goal
Chelsea’s hopes for a late signing of a transfer window have been raised by the news surrounding Saul Niguez, Atletico Madrid and Jules Kounde from Sevilla.
After setting out the provisions for Saul, Atleti has reacted little to their demands to contribute a £ 34 million (€ 40 million) commitment to buy the 26-year-old. However, there is a glimmer of hope if Chelsea meet their requirements before the end of the game.
Meanwhile, during a press conference in Seville, club director Monchi confirmed that Chelsea had missed an important deadline and now have to pay the € 80m (£ 68m) release clause for Kounde.
What did Monchi say?
“Customers can leave before midnight if someone pays his clause, then we can do nothing. He has the same chance of leaving as all his teammates,” Monchi said.
“Chelsea’s only offer for Kounde was last Wednesday around 5pm for an amount we did not like. It was linked to Chelsea selling a player. It was a decent fee but it did not suit us. criteria.
“We responded with a counter-offer with a deadline of Friday, so we could sign a replacement. They did not respond to the counter-offer before Friday. Kounde’s clause never increased to € 90 million. It always raised € 80 million.
“We all decided it was best that Jules did not travel to Elche. It is normal for players to be affected by news of any kind. Last year he had the interest of City and now of Chelsea this year.”
Will Chelsea sign anyone?
The transfer window closes at 11pm in the UK, so Chelsea have little time to look for alternative options.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been told he is staying and Ethan Ampadu could also stay at the club to add depth from Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Callum Hudson-Odoi received a concrete offer from Borussia Dortmund for a loan. Although Hudson-Odoi was an unused substitute in Chelsea’s first three league games, his move appears to be blocked.
Elsewhere, Chelsea will try to borrow Malang Sarr, Ross Barkley and Lewis Baker. It is known that Eintracht contacted Frankfurt Sarr about a possible move.
Chelsea youngster Thierno Ballo has completed a medical examination ahead of a season loan to Rapid Vienna in his native Austria. Tino Anjorin will be rented to Lokomotiv Moscow, after Chelsea accepted a bid that includes a £ 17m call option.
This lack of deals would bring Chelsea a net profit of around £ 35m to this transfer window, having first signed Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Bettinelli.
