Team India once again made many debuts in the ongoing second T20I match Sri Lanka in Colombo. With Krunal Pandya under the weather, India had to make the most of the use of the available players in their weapons. As a result, four Indian cricketers got their first T20I caps and they were predictably excited to receive them. After five players debuted in the final ODI, Chetan Sakariya, Nitish Rana, Devdutt Padikkal and Ruturaj Gaikwad made their first T20I appearance.
Due to the fact that Krunal Pandya tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, the authorities had to postpone the remaining two T20Is, and keep them in order. It also meant that eight players who came into close contact with Pandya had to test. Fortunately, they returned COVID-19 negatively. But the management kept them from taking precautions. As Suryakumar Yadav and Prithvi Shaw would join India’s Test squad in England, it became more mandatory.
The eight players missing the rest of the series are Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Manish Pandey, Ishan Kishan, Krishnappa Gowtham, Deepak Chahar. That’s why people like Chetan Sakariya, Nitish Rana, Devdutt Padikkal and Ruturaj Gaikwad debuted. All four players impressed in their IPL tournament. But of these, only two have appeared in the ODI series.
While Nitish Rana could not impress in the third one-day match of the series, left-back seam bowler Chetan Sakariya has one to remember. Sakariya ends with figures of 8-0-34-2, although this is a lost cause. The young man, like Dhananjaya de Silva and Bhanuka Rajapaksa, was fired. He will also have a similar impact in his first T20I.
