CPL 2021: Faf du Plessis’s brilliant century achieves a big victory for St Lucia Kings

In the 15th game of the running Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2021, St Lucia Kings (SLK) recorded an unforgettable triumph over St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (SNP) to climb to second place in the points ladder.

The Kings first put a batsman 224/2 on the scoreboard in their allotted 20 overs, courtesy of a fantastic century by the captain Faf du Plessis. The South African star smashed his first century in CPL history and eventually scored unbeaten 120, which is the third highest score in the competition.

Highest Scores in CPL:

  • 132 * – Brandon King
  • 121 * – Andre Russell
  • 120 * – Faf du Plessis

Du Plessis’ magic knock led the Kings to a massive 100-run victory over the Patriots, who claimed their first defeat this season with a five-game winning streak. The Pretorian scored just 25 balls in his fifties and kept pace to reach his first CPL century. With that, he also became the third overseas player to score a ton in the tournament.

Du Plessis is well supported by Roston Chase in an unbeaten stand of 124 runs around the third wicket. Chase scored a half-century from 25 deliveries, which was his second fifty of the season. Du Plessis scored 120 not-out of 60 balls, with the help of 13 fours and five sixes.

In response, the Patriots bundled together for 124 in 16.5 overs. Evin Lewis looked very pleasant and scored a remarkable 73 out of 42 deliveries but did not get enough support from the other side. The second highest scorer for the Dwayne Bravo team was Chris Gayle with 14 runs.

For Kings, Alzarri Joseph took three wickets for 27 in 3.5 overs. Just like that, Keemo paul also bagged a three-wicket haul for 23 runs in 3 overs.

“It was a brilliant turn. He was under pressure from the start of the tournament, and he did well. We do not have great power at the back. Our goal is to see if we can get off to a good start, ‘ said Andre Fletcher over Du Plessis’ innings after the game.
