India’s fast bowler Deepak Chahar recently showed his mettle with the bat during the ODI series between India and Sri Lanka which was played in the island nation in July. Furthermore, he revealed the message that his captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) gave him after his 69 * match.
The Indian team led by Shikhar Dhawan toured Sri Lanka in a series of three T20Is and three ODIs. India managed to win the ODI series 2-1 but lost the T20I series 1-2. Chahar was the hero of the second one-day international in the three-match series against Sri Lanka, but not with the ball, albeit with the bat, as he scored an incredible 69 * and with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, India helped ‘ to win a close encounter at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
In a conversation with IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings, the Rajasthan T20 captain spoke about his match he won and remembers going in the middle with the mindset to play as many overs as possible and the game deeper to take.
‘Eventually I got the opportunity to bat in one game (smile), and I made good use of it. When I got up, I saw wickets fall and when I was next. I was not thinking about winning the game, I was just thinking about playing all the overs so we could take the game closer, and if the game comes close, anything can happen
In that particular game, I play what the situation requires. I take the risk on the weakest bowler of the team. Hasaranga and Chameera bowled very well, so my goal was to play them off and target other bowlers, ” Said Chahar.
Deepak Chahar recalls MS Dhoni’s message after his beating
Deepak Chahar added 84 * runs to the eighth wicket, along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who made 19 * in 28 balls and led the youngster through his entire match, helping India clinch the series victory in the second one-dayer.
Furthermore, Chahar remembers that his night became more special as he received a message from MS Dhoni, his captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
‘In turn he (MS Dhoni) sent me a message for the batting-‘ Very well played! “so it was a very good moment for me,” revealed Chahar.
He said MS Dhoni had selected him in the CSK squad for his batting, while also recalling a match in the 2018 season when MSD promoted him in the batting order.
‘He only selected me in the team because of my batting. When I was on the Pune side (RPSG), I was selected as a batsman. In 2018, he sends me ahead of him in one of the matches. In that match, I scored 40 odd runs. After that I didn’t get much opportunity, and I waited for my chance. “ Expanded Chahar.
Deepak Chahar was surprisingly left out of the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup. However, he is one of three reserve players along with Shreyas Iyer and Shardul Thakur in the team.
