Monday, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has the team of 22 members for the upcoming series with limited overs against South Africa.
Experienced fighters Dinesh Chandimal returned to the national team. Chandimal last wore the jersey of Sri Lanka during the tour of West Indies in March-April earlier this year. Together with Chandimal, Kusal Perera, who completed his isolation after testing positive for COVID-19, is also part of the outfit.
Dasun Shanaka will lead the Sri Lankan team with Dhananjaya de Silva will be his deputy. The selectors have some new faces in the form of Mahesh Theekshana and Pulina Tharanga.
The unlimited spin duo of Theekshana and Tharanga received calls due to their recent performances with the ball in the Dialog-SLC Invitational T20 League 2021. While Tharanga finished the tournament as the third highest wicketkeeper (7), Theekshana was the eighth wicketkeeper (4).
Quick bowler with left arm Binura Fernando also made his return after recovering from an ankle injury. Binura missed the recent Indian series due to his injury.
Both Sri Lanka and South Africa play three one-day matches and as many T20I matches. The one-day match with three matches will be played on 2, 4 and 7 September. Similarly, the three-match T20I series will be played on 10, 12 and 14 September. All matches take place in the iconic R Premadasa International Stadium in Colombo.
