The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the best T20 tournaments in the world. Every year, fans enthusiastically wait on IPL to see how their favorite players show magic for different franchises. Concepts like Orange Cap and Purple Cap make the cash-rich league more interesting as it attracts fans and creates tough competition between the top quality cricketers.
Players like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, David Warner, Kane Williamson, Chris Gayle all won Orange Cap in the lucrative league. This is one of the main reasons why admirers always pay attention to these recognitions in IPL. Senior senior batter however Dinesh Karthik, which represents Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the highly acclaimed T20 tournament, the Orange cap reckons is the dumbest award given in IPL.
Karthik was of the opinion that coaches are the most influential players in the extravagant T20 league, but they can never win an Orange Cap. The Tamil Nadu cricketer felt that most top players liked it Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock wins the coveted award, but stars like it Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell affects the game much more.
‘I think the Orange Cap is one of the dumbest awards to give away in the IPL. They (the organizers) could think of it much better. Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell would never win the Orange Cap because they would not get the runs that a Rohit Sharma or a Quinton de Kock or another opener gets, ‘ Karthik tells Chopra on his Youtube channel.
‘But what they would do affected far more matches with their innings than the openers over the course of a season. We’re still in the number of runs and stuff like that. But (in T20Is) it comes down to it affecting things, ‘ he added.
