The fifth and final test between England and In the, which was due to start on Friday (September 10), has been canceled due to fears of COVID in the Indian camp.
A BCCI statement later said that an offer had been made to his English counterparts to reschedule the match.
“The BCCI and ECB held several rounds to find a way to play the Test match, but the outbreak of Covid-19 in the continent of the Indian team forced the decision to abolish the Old Trafford Test match.
“Instead of the strong relationship between BCCI and ECB, the BCCI offered the ECB a rescheduling of the canceled test match. Both councils will try to find a window to reschedule this Test match, ‘ read the BCCI statement.
The cancellation of the Manchester Test was nonetheless palpable, as fans and former cricketers took to Twitter to respond to the drama surrounding the match.
“It’s so unfortunate – it was an amazing series!” wrote the Australian cricket legend Shane Warne.

Former opener in India Wasim Jaffer to England for canceling their tour of the city South Africa last year, citing fears of COVID-19. India were also in the right not to play a team in Manchester.
“England was then within their rights, and so was India now. If anything India complied with their commitment and completed the Oval Test despite the fact that the entire coaching staff became positive during the match. #ENGvsIND #perspective, “ Jaffer tweeted.

Here’s how others reacted:
Crazy times, but I suppose we’re prepared for everything in the current climate. Some questions – what happens to the points / how does the series end? If not forfeit? Is there a chance to complete it another time? #ENGvIND

The first official release of the ECB has the word ‘forfeited’ in it. Which effectively means that series is drawn. But ten minutes later, the same issue did not forfeit the word ‘forfeit’. That means series to India. When do we have total clarity? #EngvInd

Does this mean that with 9 days to CSK v MI in Dubai NO player from every team in the UK will be available if they now have a 10 day quarantine in the UK?

India showed great character and fighting spirit during the series. Giving it back to them with the best skills was something to be proud of on this team. I’m sure India will be the favorite when this ‘postponed’ match is held # 5th Test #IndianCricketTeam
