Despite the absence of Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin in the just concluded fourth Test against England at Kennington Oval in London, Team India managed to put on an unforgettable performance, defeated the hosts by 157 runs in the match to lead the series of five matches 2-1.
Umesh Yadav and Shardul Thakur, who replaced Shami and Ishant, proves their strength and performs excellently to impress everyone, justifying their presence in the XI. While Umesh grabbed three wickets in each innings, Shardul grabbed three scales in the match and struck a crucial half-century in both sets.
Now the question arises who will get a place in the fifth and final Test, which starts on Friday 10 September at Old Trafford in Manchester. Well, the former Indian captain, Sunil Gavaskar has the answer. The cricketer has shared some changes that the Indian team could make for the Manchester Test.
Gavaskar was of the opinion that Shami is definitely a good choice for the upcoming test, and that he may be in place of Mohammad Siraj since, except him, everyone in the previous game met the desired expectation.
‘Shami joins the team. There is no doubt about it. The only question is … whether Shami will replace Siraj – because he just was not of color in this particular game – so this is the only area where I see the chance to take a chance. But he must enter; there is no doubt about it, “ Gavaskar said Sony Sports Network after the 4th test.
The 72-year-old further reckoned that India might have given their bait bowler Jasprit Bumrah a break if India already wins the series.
“I think you’re still playing for India, and the series has yet to be won. “If you are 2-0 ahead, then rest for Bumrah, but we have not won the series yet, so Bumrah must play.” Gavaskar added.
