ENG vs IND: VVS Laxman opens on Ajinkya Rahane under fire

Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman got a strong statement for ‘out of form’ Ajinkya Rahane. Laxman feels that the vice-captain of Team India should get a breather amid repeated failures with the bat in the ongoing Test series against England.

Rahane scored 109 runs in 4 Tests at an average of 15.57, but did not contribute to his team in crisis situations. He came out in good batting conditions in the second innings of the Oval Test for a duck of eight ball.

Commenting on Rahane’s poor performance in recent games, Laxman said: ‘It’s time to give Rahane a break. I’m not sure what the future holds for him. He is a quality player and I always believe that quality players come back into the team. But the form and confidence he showed and the body language when he was in the middle, Ajinkya Rahane did not look convincing once during his eight-ball innings. ”

Laxman added it Hanuma Vihari, who played national championship before the Test series in England, may get a chance in the fifth and final Test at Old Trafford from 10 September.

‘You do not want to participate in a Test match with a similar mindset, especially not in the case of a senior batsman. I just feel, come the Old Trafford Test match, there could be a change and Vihari could get a chance ahead of Ajinkya Rahane, ‘ Laxman told ESPNCricinfo.

Here’s how fans reacted to Rahane’s recent dismissal:
