On day 1 of the current second Test between England and India at Lords Cricket Ground in London, the visitors got off to an excellent start. The opening pair of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul again showed tremendous skills and frustrated the English bowlers.
Rohit and Rahul added 126 runs for the opening spot and reached the second partnership through a visiting team in the first innings in England.
The highest opening of the first innings by a visiting team in England:
- 128 M Slater – M Taylor Old Trafford 1993
- 126 Rohit – Rahul Lord’s 2021 *
- 120 M Kent – G Wood The Oval 1981
- 120 A Petersen – G Smith Leeds 2012
Rohit was on his way to the three-figure, but England’s highest wicketkeeper James Anderson had some other plans. The ‘Burnley Express’ made the first breakthrough by removing Rohit in the 44th over from India’s first innings.
It all happened on the fourth delivery of the over when Anderson got a flawless seam delivery that pressed sharply and destroyed Rohit’s defense. The red leather hit the back leg of the batter and kissed the top of the stump to end its fine beat. The Mumbaikar made 83 runs from 145 balls (4s-11, 6s-1).

Meanwhile, the former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer was extremely impressed by Rohit’s phenomenal beat. He reckoned that Rohit batted excellently, and it was the bat of the highest quality, especially in the challenging conditions.
‘(Emoji with a broken heart) These were test matches of the highest quality, even in test conditions. Well played @ ImRo45 (clapping hands draw emojis) #ENGvsIND, “ Jaffer wrote on Twitter.
