England and Sri Lanka tackle in the third and final one-dayer at the County Ground in Bristol. The Three Lions put on a professional performance in the second game, winning by 8 wickets and also winning the ODI series. It will be a dead rubber as far as England is concerned. England beat Sri Lanka in the T20I series 2-0 and looks good to wipe them clean in the ODIs as well.
England got new heroes in the first two games. While it was Chris Woakes with the ball in the first game, it was Sam Curran and David Willey in the second who took nine wickets together. With the bat, Joe Root scored the fifties in the first two games, with captain Eoin Morgan scoring an unbeaten 75 in the second game.
Sri Lanka stands on the brink of an ODI series loss after their T20I series loss against the opponents earlier. They just could not play as a unit. Their bowling group especially cannot take wickets. They took five wickets in the first game and only two in the second game. With the bat, they still have to score 250 or higher in the series. The Lankan team has their backs against the wall and has to play out of their skin to pull one back.
Meanwhile, there is talk of some of the English players being equipped for the third ODI, while others are getting a chance. All of this is part of England’s rotation policy that they have been giving preference to for some time.
