England’s team for fifth Test against India at Old Trafford

England head coach Chris Silverwood has nominated a group of 16 members for the fifth Test against India starting at Old Trafford on Friday 10 September.

Paaltjiewagter batsman Jos Buttler, who missed the 157-run defeat in the fourth Test at the Kennington Oval to be with his wife for the birth of their second child, returned to the team for the final game of the series.

Left arm rotator Jack Leach was also added to the team as a second-round option along with an all-round player Moeen Ali.

Kolwer Sam Billings, which was included in the fourth test group as cover for Jonny Bairstow, is back in Kent.

With an Ashes series appearing this winter, there are questions about whether 39-year-old pacer James Anderson should rest for the fifth Test.

“He [Anderson] and I’ll have a conversation together, he will no doubt have input on this, James knows his own body and he will definitely give me an honest opinion on where he is, and this is definitely one I will listen to. I know he does not want to miss any cricket, but we have to take care of him. “ says Silverwood in his statement.

England team for 5th Test against India:

Joe Root (c), Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler (wk), Sam Curran, Haseeb Hameed, Dan Lawrence, Jack Leach, David Malan, Craig Overton, Ollie Pope, Ollie Robinson, Chris Woakes , Mark Wood.
