The veteran wing has decided to extend his stay in the Italian top flight by joining the club in Campania.
Former Bayern Munich and Fiorentina star Franck Ribery will sign with Serie A new boys Salernitana, Purpose can confirm.
Ribery has been without a club since leaving Fiorentina at the end of the 2020-21 campaign, while La Viola has finally decided to extend his two-year stay at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.
The 38-year-old was at one stage linked to a return to Bayern but it now appears that he is extending his stay in the Italian top flight, and Salernitana would have allegedly handed him a one-year deal.
What are the terms of the agreement?
The Campania-based outfit will also have the option to give Ribery a one-season extension if they avoid relegation from Serie A, and Purpose can confirm that he will undergo a medical examination on the club’s training ground on Monday before being officially unveiled.
More than 13,000 fans are expected to welcome the Frenchman to Estadio Arechi as he becomes the most famous player in the club’s 102-year history.
Ribery was greeted by Sports Director Angelo Fabiani of Salernitana and team manager Salvatore Avallone on his arrival at Naples Capodichino Airport, and is eager to embark on the next phase of his illustrious career that now spans two decades.
How did Ribery fare for Fiorentina?
Ribery signed a free transfer for Fiorentina in August 2019 after leaving Bayern, where he won nine Bundesliga titles and the Champions League under a host of other honors while establishing himself among the leading wings in European football.
The former France international could not reach the same heights as La Viola, but still managed to score five goals and ten assists in 51 games for the club.
When could he make his bow for Salernitana?
If the presentation of Ribery at Salernitana runs smoothly, he will work with his new teammates later this week to start full training before the resumption of the 2021-222 season.
Avallone lost their first two matches before the international break, but that could be reinforced by Ribery’s presence when he travels to Turin on Sunday.
