The Black Stars are looking for a new coach after the dismissal of their head coach
Ghana have parted ways with coach CK Akonnor following the country’s turbulent start to the 2022 World Cup, the Soccer Association announced.
Assistant coaches David Duncan and Dutchman Patrick Graveraars also received the bag.
Akonnor leaves the Black Stars after nearly two years in charge.
“The executive council of the Ghana Football Association has taken a decision to terminate the appointment of Black Stars coach Charles Akonnor and his two assistants immediately,” the GFA said. Official Website.
‘This follows the receipt of the technical report of the head coach of the senior national team and the report of the Black Stars Management Committee to Ghana’s qualifiers for Group G against Ethiopia and South Africa.
“After considering the two reports, the executive council has decided to end its relationship with head coach CK Akonnor and the two assistants.”
Akonnor took over the Black Stars in January 2020, replacing James Kwasi Appiah, under a task of qualifying in Cameroon next year and winning the Africa Cup of Nations, and also qualifying Ghana for the World Cup.
Under the former captain of Wolfsburg, Ghana opened their campaign in Qatar 2022 with a difficult 1-0 victory over Ethiopia, before leaving 1-0 for South Africa last week.
The results left the West Africans third on the table in Group G, ahead of a double header against Zimbabwe next month.
“The Executive Council has set up a three (3) members committee consisting of Vice President Mark Addo, chairman of the regional football association in the East-East, Alhaji Salifu Zida and dr. Randy Abbey to find a head coach and assistant coaches for the Black Stars. next 72 hours.
“The association wishes CK Akonnor and his assistants a lot of strength with their future efforts.
“Ghana currently have three (3) points after the two opening matches. The Black Stars take on Zimbabwe in the next round in October 2021. ”
The Black Stars were drawn against Morocco, Gabon and the Comoros in the group stage during the Afvcon final.
