Team India girded his hips for the second cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23, which starts with the five-match Test series against England. In the just concluded first cycle of WTC, the team of Virat Kohli reached the final of the event and finished as the runners-up after defeating New Zealand.
The red ball match against England starts from the first week in August, and before the long-awaited series, India had an early setback as opener Shubman Gill doubt about the test leg due to an unnoticed injury.
However, Gill is currently staying in England before the Indian team management will make him one last appeal. But what if Gill does not recover? Does India have enough choices to replace the talented team? Well, India apparently has few names that can fill the gap. Players like Mayank Agarwal, KL Rahul, Hanuma Vihari and rookie Abhimanyu Easwaran is in the group.
According to a TOI report, Can Rahul get a chance in the middle order as he has not yet proven his brilliant against the moving ball. Vihari, however, faced such people James Anderson and Stuart Broad and can get a chance to play.
‘The match against Rahul against the new ball has not contributed in the past year. He can be a very good option. “Vihari has shown that he has the ability to play the new ball out.” says a source close to the government of India.
Meanwhile, the source also explained that Shubman is completely disappointed because his injury looks bad at the moment. Team management wants to see him recover before the series starts, but the likelihood of that seems unrealistic.
‘Shubman is very upset at the moment. The injury looks bad. BCCI contacts the best professionals to have Shubman treated in England. While the team management wants him to recover in time for the series, it seems unrealistic. It must be seen whether he needs to be operated on, “ added the source.
