Like the T20 World Cup 2021 approaching, experts from the game began sharing their analysis of the team’s combination and their favorites to win the title. To the wagon, former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs selected three teams that he said could win the worldwide show event.
The former Proteas star has been named India, Pakistan, en England as three parties that will make other teams worth their money in the T20 World Cup in 2021. Gibbs said England and India are strong parties, so these are obvious choices, and Pakistan is always in the mix because of their unpredictability.
Gibbs also explained why he did not choose West India, which is considered a T20 specialist team. The 47-year-old reckoned that the pitches of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) would be turn-friendly, and Windies’ batsmen would struggle against spin because they like to spin on wickets that do not spin.
“Definitely [I would say] England, Pakistan and India. You never know; Sri Lanka could face a shot, or even Bangladesh. I definitely think Pakistan, India and England for now. It also depends on how the conditions are going to be. The unpredictability of Pakistan is always in the mix. It is clear that India and England [are strong sides], ” Gibbs said as quoted by Pakistan Cricket.
‘A lot depends on the wickets. If it’s going to spin a bit, I do not think the West Indies are going to be that dangerous because they like the ball coming on the bat. They like wickets that do not spin. If there is a turn, it does not always fit in the West Indies, ” he added.
Interestingly, the three teams that Gibbs selected have won the T20 World Cup in the past. India, under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, won the trophy in the first edition in 2007. Similarly, Pakistan won the event in 2009 while England led by Paul Collingwood, won the title in 2010.
