The 2020 T20 World Cup takes place from October 17 to November 14 in Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). As the mega-event approached, cricket experts began picking victims who would shine in the global competition. Following the trend, former South African international Herschelle Gibbs named the best T20 batsmen in this time.
Gibbs chose such things Virat Kohli, Babar Azam and Jos Buttler as the best batsmen in the shortest format. The former Proteas victim has admitted that the West Indies have many powerhouses and coaches, but at this stage he finds Kohli, Azam, Buttler and Steve Smith than better batsmen. Gibbs also mentioned that the former captain of South Africa AB de Villiers would also fit in the list, but he retired.
“There is [Virat] Kohli, Babar Azam, Jos Buttler. There are just so many good batsmen. Some from West India too. You have generators and finishers. At this stage Kohli, Babar Azam, Steve Smith, of course AB de Villiers, retired, then there is Jos Buttler, and on and on, ” says Gibbs as quoted by Pakistan Cricket.
Gibbs also explained why he went with the above victims. The 47-year-old reckons these batsmen can perform on any kind of field. Gibbs felt they were very skilled, and it is their greatest trait that sets them apart from the rest.
Gibbs was of the opinion that players like Kohli, Azam, Smith, Buttler are special because they have runs and do not easily give up their wickets.
‘You can say that five or six batsmen are good because they can play on all kinds of surfaces, and not just on flat decks that are good for batting. “They are very skilled, and that’s what makes them really good while being separated from the rest.” added the Cape Town cricketer.
‘The hunger they have and play with the game is what makes them great. They never easily give away their wickets. That’s what makes them special, ” Gibbs added further.
