The Inter -ais suffered a cardiac arrest in the first match of their country’s Euro 2020 campaign and needed emergency treatment on the pitch.
Referee Anthony Taylor shared his experience of the reins of Denmark and Finland during Euro 2020 for the first time, and admitted that he knew immediately that Christian Eriksen was in danger after his collapse in the match.
Eriksen undefeated falls to the ground during the first half of the group stage and receives emergency treatment on the field before being rushed to hospital.
Fortunately, the Inter midfielder fully recovered after suffering a cardiac arrest, largely due to the quick thinking of his teammates, medical staff and other people involved in the game who ensured that he was given attention as soon as possible.

“I could tell right away. Christian was on his own. The only thing that was close to him was a throbbing ball hitting his knee,” Taylor explains. BBC when asked about the moment Eriksen went to the ground.
“I actually looked directly at him when he fell over. I could see his face as he fell. I immediately knew something was wrong because of how his face looks and how he falls to the floor. That’s what worries me the most. .
“My main priority is the safety of the players. This means that if a player is injured or not well, he needs medical help.
“That’s all I did. I called a doctor to the field. Nothing else struck me until the next day when I returned to [the match officials’ base in] Istanbul. The real heroes that night were the Danish captain and the medics who performed the initial CPR and defibrillation.
“At the moment this is happening, the only focus is to ensure that Christian gets the treatment he needs. He did so clearly because of the quick response of not only his captain but also the medics. It is the end.The football at that point, at the end of the day we are dealing with people.
‘In the immediate aftermath of the teams arriving at Christian, everyone still comes to me as the referee for what we do next. Does the game continue? Is not it? What do we do? How long do we wait? This is my task in cooperation with the Uefa delegate. Even after the initial unfortunate situation, I still had a lot to do to manage the emotions of everyone there.
“The most important thing was that Christian was OK and got the help he needed. Then we had to make sure both players were good and that the rest of my team was right.”
When was the decision made to keep playing?
After a long delay, Denmark and Finland finally resume their match, with the latter leading 1-0 winners.
“I’ve experienced this before, not only during a Premier League game, but also in my previous job in the prison service. I really had to consider my assistants and my fourth official, but when I took the players inside I was not with these guys, ”Taylor said of the decision to continue playing once Eriksen’s condition was confirmed.
“They are sitting in our dressing room. I’m in another room with the match delegate and team representatives.
‘We decided to suspend the match until we found out how Christian it is.
“I did not get a chance to talk to my team until I went into my dressing room for a while afterwards. I had to see how it went and to make sure that we could continue the game ourselves, if necessary. “
