The Nigerian midfielder is proud of how his match against the posh of Darren Ferguson went, where he scored during his debut in Hatters
Fred Onyedinma is delighted to have made a sharp debut in Luton Town’s 3-0 win over Peterborough United in Saturday’s English Championship.
The 24-year-old joined the Hatters on May 25, 2021 at an unknown amount after Wycombe Wanderers’ relegation to League One.
Onyedinma was named in the team’s starting lineup, and he restored Nathan Jones’ confidence in him by contributing two assists and a goal on Kenilworth Road.
After helping Elijah Adebayo and Harry Cornick with their goals, the Super Eagles prospect registered his name on the goal scorer’s page in the 71st minute.
Cornick pushed in James Bree on the right side to hit a wonderful cross that the African star met to shoot past goalkeeper Christy Pym on the second attempt.
“It was a dream debut and I’m just delighted with the victory, it could not have gone better,” said Onyedinma the club’s website.
“We wanted to achieve the goals, not feel sorry for them and wanted to punish them, and I think we did well.
‘I’m not going to lie to you, even with Gabe playing a brilliant game, I told him’ one goal, one help – that would start the dream ‘. To go better, I’m just delighted. ”
Onyedinma played alongside Cornick, Adebayo as well as substitutes Admiral Muskwe and Carlos Mendes Gomes.
The quintet boasts power and pace. Asked what it’s like to be part of such an offensive threat, he said: ‘It’s exciting, and it’s the thing that pushes everyone, even during training.
‘We have quality in the attack options, and it’s just exciting to see.
“You are always looking for points, but as a winger I am there to create assists, and I am delighted with both, but I also say the goal (was special).”
He was replaced with Mendes with eight minutes left on the clock, while fans gave him a handshake.
“I thought I was meant to come down earlier, but the ball is still playing and I just had to keep going. He (Jones) just pushed me back and told me to keep going, “he added.
“The fans and the atmosphere were brilliant. I have played here a few times and have never been on the winning side.
“It was great from the first minute and I look forward to playing here again.”
