Wanindu Hasaranga was a notable artist for Sri Lanka in their rather disturbing year. Despite his team’s embarrassment against West Indies, Bangladesh, England and India, the 24-year-old shone with bat and ball several times.
Hasaranga have scored 344 runs in 11 ODIs so far this year and have won eight wickets with an impressive 4.35 economy. The right-hand man has a dazzling record in the T20I since his debut against New Zealand in 2019. He has an economy figure of 6.81, coupled with an impeccable bowling average of 16.13.

Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan is confident that once Hasaranga plays in the IPL team, he will only thrive further.
An IPL franchise must look after him [Hasaranga]. But the problem is, if it’s a local player, he’s running into the side. But if it’s a foreign player, you need to see what franchise a foreign spinner wants. This is a tricky thing. They will buy him, but it is not easy for a franchise to play him. “Some franchises mostly look to Indian spinners rather than foreign spinners.” Muralitharan quoted ESPNcricinfo as saying.
According to media reports, four IPL franchises are interested in queuing in Hasaranga for the rest of IPL 2021. All eight teams may sign players to replace those who will not travel to the UAE for the marquee tent.
If Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) gives Hasaranga permission to participate in the cash-rich league, he could be selected by one of the four teams that have expressed their interest in obtaining his services.
