A few days later England omnivore Chris Woakes withdrawn from the UAE leg of IPL 2021, Delhi Capital (DC) announced his replacement.
The Capitals are currently in the top position with 12 points after 6 wins in 8 games.
Woakes was part of the initial phase of IPL 2021 before being postponed in May due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in the bio-bubble of various teams. The 32-year-old played three games and scored five wickets on an average of 16.40.
“Delhi Capitals announced today that English versatile Chris Woakes, who scored 5 wickets in 3 matches in the first half of the VIVO IPL 2021, has withdrawn from the tournament for personal reasons,” DC said in a statement Monday.
Last year’s runner-up named the Australian fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis as Woakes’ replacement for the remainder of the IPL 2021 season. Dwarshuis took 100 wickets in 82 T20 matches at an average of 23.73.
The 27-year-old, who plays for Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League (BBL), and is the sixth highest wicketkeeper in the history of the tournament with 85 wickets in 69 matches.
Delhi Capitals has acquired the services of Australian fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis as its replacement.

Earlier, Punjab Kings (PBKS) announced that the South African batsman Aiden Markram will replace England’s Dawid Malan for the remaining IPL 2021.
Malan withdrew from the tournament to be with his family ahead of his upcoming international assignments.
“Markram will replace David Malan, who will take a while to be with his family ahead of the T20 World Cup and the Ashes Series.” PBKS said in a statement.
