“Lebanon experienced one of the deadliest days in its recent history,”
On April 7, Israel launched over 100 air strikes in just 10 minutes, targeting locations linked to Hezbollah. This rapid escalation has resulted in significant casualties, with more than 300 people reported killed in the strikes across Lebanon, a third of whom were women, children, and the elderly.
In a dramatic turn of events, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed by an Israeli strike on a bunker in Tehran, further inflaming tensions. The Iranian regime retaliated by launching missiles across the Middle East, targeting Gulf nations and US military bases.
As the conflict intensified, twelve IDF soldiers and 23 civilians have been killed in ballistic missile attacks across Israel since February 28, with over 7,500 others injured.
Younes Hamami Lalehzar, an Iranian rabbi and physician, described the devastation: “I was informed that one of Tehran’s few synagogues had been completely destroyed in an Israel strike on April 7.” This strike is emblematic of the broader destruction inflicted during this conflict.
The air strikes have not only targeted military installations but have also struck densely populated neighborhoods, places previously considered safe. “Some of the attacks hit busy, densely populated neighbourhoods, places that had not been targeted before and where people felt they were safe,”
In response to the escalating violence, a ceasefire deal was announced on April 7, set to take effect on April 8, although the situation remains fluid and details are still emerging.
As both sides brace for potential further escalation, the international community watches closely, with fears that this conflict could spread beyond the immediate region.
