SOUTH-MORE TAHOE, Nev. – Jar for the Hall of Fame John Smoltz guided the 18th hole of the 5th Saturday on Saturday to take a two-point lead over Vinny Del Negro in the final round of the U.S. Century Championship.
Smoltz had a 26-point round at Edgewood Tahoe in the adjusted Stableford points table for a total of two days of 51. Del Negro, a former NBA player and coach, also scored 26 points. In the traditional score, Smoltz and Del Negro each shot 2 under 70s.
Two-time winner Jack Wagner was third at 47 after a 23-point day. Former LPGA Tour star Annika Sorenstam was just one point behind.
Mike Modano, who was tied with Smoltz for the preliminary round in the first round after an albatross at 18, had a second round of seven points to drop a tie for 12th at 32 points.
Charles Barkley was at 77 a 77th place in the 88-player field. Al Michaels was last at minus-59.
