The Bianconeri Women’s account posted a picture of Cecilia Salvai making a gesture mocking the Asian people
Juventus have apologized for posting a racist image on Twitter.
The Juventus women’s team shared a picture of defender Cecilia Salvai wearing a cone as a hat and following her eyes diagonally with her fingers, following damaging, long-standing caricatures of people from Asia.
The only caption that accompanied the picture was of a face between two hands to repeat Salvai’s expression.
What was said?
The tweet was condemned as racist and eventually deleted before the Bianconeri account was apologized for.
It reads: ‘We sincerely apologize that our tweet, which was not intended to cause controversy or racial undertones, may have offended someone.
“Juventus have always been against racism and discrimination.”
What else has been said?
The Italian club did not comment further on the image.
However, the club’s apology did not satisfy many of their followers, as several accounts gave up insisting that Salvai’s attitude was not meant to have ‘racial undertones’.
Meanwhile, Salvai’s latest Instagram post was flooded with comments calling her out for the gesture.
