Tottenham striker is still the priority for Pep Guardiola as the transfer deadline awaits, despite speculation about a move for the Juventus star
Tottenham striker Harry Kane remains Manchester City’s main target amid reports of interest in Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Premier League champions are expected to continue the move to the English captain, despite Spurs chairman Daniel Levy insisting that Kane is not for sale.
City will have to break the British transfer record they set when they had earlier paid £ 100m ($ 136m) for Jack Grealish in the window, and time was running out as the August 31 deadline approached.
Why does City want Kane?
City boss Pep Guardiola wants a replacement for the club’s biggest scorer Sergio Aguero, who joined Barcelona on a free transfer this summer, confirming that Kane was his team’s top scorer.
But Kane, who was the top scorer in the Premier League last season and leading assist-maker, has three years left on his contract and Spurs show no signs of wanting to sell.
City earlier made a £ 100m bid in the transfer window and is expected to make another offer for the 28-year-old before the deadline.
Can Ronaldo join City?
Purpose understand that Ronaldo is one of a number of forwards proposed to City, but the club’s focus is still square on Kane.
Speculation has grown about the future of the Portuguese international after he was left on the bench for Juve’s 2-2 draw with Udinese at the weekend.
But according to sources in Italy, Ronaldo did not ask to leave Juventus, and the Giants of Serie A received no offers for him.
The former Manchester United forward has also said he would never play for City and Bianconeri boss Massimiliano Allegri said Ronaldo told him to stay by Juventus.
Will City do any other transactions?
City’s funds were strengthened through the sale of several subsidiaries as well as collected a percentage of the deal with which Jadon Sancho joined Man Utd this summer.
Guardiola have confirmed that several players want to leave before the transfer window closes, with midfielder Bernardo Silva most likely to leave.
Purpose understand that Silva, who is linked with AC Milan, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, is currently not concluding an agreement.
What was said?
Guardiola said more revenue depends on the market, but added that City should always try to score the best players when they are available.
“The group of people are fantastic, the players have incredible quality, so I can not complain,” he said after Saturday’s 5-0 win over Norwich City.
‘I’ve never complained since I arrived on day one, I will not do it now, but of course the club has an obligation, the duty to look ahead, to get better, to feel that we are still can still be there with a tough Premier League and that’s what we’re going to do. ”
