The former Reds defender sees no reason to score another goal scorer as there is speculation about big money deals by rivals.
Liverpool appear to have a “spending problem” Premier League rivals hold off on big money deals, says Markus Babbel, with the former Reds defender claiming that Jurgen Klopp is not ‘100 percent sure there is a player’ in the attacking division.
Ibrahima Konate has already been added to the ranks at Anfield, with a £ 36m ($ 50m) deal made for the French defender, but no move on Merseyside.
There has been a lot of speculation because local enemies are preparing to splash the money, but Babbel is not convinced that Klopp will invest much in any alleged targets during the current window.
What was said?
Former Reds full-back Babbel has, in collaboration with NetBet, tell Goal: ‘To me the problem is that Liverpool seem to be the only English club to have a problem with pandemics.
“Chelsea want to spend £ 150 million ($ 208 million) for Haaland, Manchester City want to spend a lot of money on players, but Liverpool are the only club looking at the money situation.
“If there’s a player available and it’s not crazy money, then they’ll do something. I’m not sure Jurgen Klopp is 100% sure there’s a player for Liverpool, but there is a situation at the front where these players need to fight for their place.
‘The problem last season was that everyone knew they were playing, whether they were playing well or not.
“Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane all have to put pressure on them. Diogo Jota brought something different, and he ended up being the best striker and was unhappy to be injured.
“He was by far the best forward, but if you look at Liverpool, they had a lot of injuries in every position that didn’t help. Once they all come back, I’m sure they will fight for the title next season.”
Will Liverpool land a goal scorer?
It has been requested that Liverpool renovate their top three, with Salah, Mane and Firmino inspiring in the final third for a few seasons.
Babbel glo a Brazilian No. 9 allowed his standards to drop in 2020-21, in what was a nine-goal campaign for him, but feel there is still enough quality there for the Reds to be looking for great silverware again.
The German added: ‘Firmino is a hard-working player and he does not score too many goals, but Salah and normally Mane will score the goals.
“Firmino also works for them, Mo Salah can not score 20, 30 goals unless someone works for him, which Firmino does. He is a different kind of attacker and he did a fantastic job so Salah and Mane could have the space get to score.goals.
‘It’s similar to Emile Heskey when he played with Michael Owen. Emile did not score many goals, but Michael was because Emile worked so hard.
‘The problem is when Firmino is not working hard enough and this has happened too much this past season.
“They won the Champions League and the Premier League for the first time, so mentally you can switch off a bit. I think they have a great chance to come back and win the title this year, they will be fresh on themselves in the season. ‘
