Barcelona head coach Ronald Koeman insists the Catalan club remain “excited” about the upcoming 2021-22 season, despite Lionel Messi leaving the club.
The iconic striker said goodbye to Barcelona on Sunday with tears in his eyes, when it became clear that the club had no way of registering him.
While Messi is expected to join Paris Saint-Germain, Koeman has put a brave face on what is coming for Barcelona, who are also struggling to find a way to register new additions Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia and Memphis Depay due to their financial problems.
What was said?
Before meeting Gamper Trophy with Juventus, Koeman told fans: ‘Despite Messi’s farewell, we are very excited about this season. We are confident that we will provide you with much joy this season. ”
‘The young people are the future of this wonderful club.
‘It was very difficult to play a whole year without an audience; we are delighted to see you again. ‘
Who is the new captain of Barcelona?
Sergio Busquets will take over the new Barcelona captain from Messi. He thanks the six-time Ballon d’Or winner and says he is excited about the challenge.
“It’s a pride to be the captain,” the long-time midfielder explained. ‘I had good examples with Carles Puyol, Xavi and Leo. Thank you Leo for taking Barça to the highest level … Forever thank you Leo. ”
