The Sri Lankan Cricket Board has reportedly decided to punish the trio of Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella and Danushka Gunathilaka for their violation of the bio-bubble during the recent tour of England by each imposing a one-year ban.

The three players arrived in Sri Lanka on Tuesday afternoon, and they are currently in a 14-day quarantine and are currently facing a minimum ban of one year and heavy fines, depending on the outcome of their investigations.

“They are likely to receive a minimum suspension of one year if convicted of multiple breaches of their contract,” one official told AFP earlier, on condition of anonymity.

According to reports, SLC has decided to ban the three cricketers for 1 year. As a result, they will also miss the T20 World Cup, which will be held in the UAE and Oman in October-November.

Their absence will be a major blow to Sri Lanka’s chances as they did not deserve a direct entry into the Super 12 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup. They will have to play the qualifying round to find a place to sleep in the next phase.
