The midfielder suffered a broken leg at midweek after coming down under a reckless challenge from Fernar Nino, Villarreal.
Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana will only play again next year, manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed on Saturday.
Fofana suffered a horrific fracture during the Foxes’ midweek friendly against Villarreal.
He then misses his team’s victory over the common shield over Manchester City and will be absent for much of the 2021-22 season.
What was said?
“He will play at some point in 2022. Unfortunately, the ligament damage is quite severe,” Rodgers said of his charge after dropping City 1-0 thanks to a late penalty from Kelechi Iheanacho.
“He’s in a good spirit, he wants to stay here and be with his teammates.
“Sometimes players want to go back to their country, but he stays here. He is operated on Monday and his recovery starts there.”
Big praise for Amartey
In Fofana’s absence, Daniel Amartey was forced to act as a late substitute in the middle of the defense.
The Ghanaian responds with a good performance to avoid the city’s debut, Jack Grealish, and leave his manager delighted.
“Whatever I asked Daniel Amartey to do, he always did with great dedication,” Rodgers added.
“His attitude is first class and he is very much a team player. He was excellent.”
