Lokonga: Arsenal must be renamed Afrika FC – Olorundare

With the arrival of the DR Congo prospect in the group of Mikel Arteta, the former Sunshine Stars player is proposing a new name for the North London outfit.

According to veteran striker Dele Olorundare, Arsenal must slowly become an African team and must be renamed ‘Afrika FC’.

The former Sunshine Stars goal machine proposed it following Albert Lokonga’s move on Monday to the giants of the Emirates Stadium in Anderlecht.

Due to his brilliant performances in Belgium, the midfielder was signed by the Gunners for £ 18 million, as the team in North London still forms the group for the 2021-22 campaign.

The move by Lokonga makes him the latest player from African background in the team of Mikel Arteta.

Others are Thomas Partey (Ghana), Bukayo Saka (Nigeria), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon), Nicolas Pepe (Ivory Coast), Nuno Tavares, (Cape Verde), Mohamed Elneny (Egypt), Folarin Balogun (Nigeria), Eddie Nketiah (Nigeria), and Arthur Okonkwo (Nigeria).

“It’s good to see the Gunners improving their squad with more African players. “I think Arsenal should become the name of Africa FC,” said Olorundare. Purpose.

“Lokonga’s move to Mikel Arteta’s group is proof that the club trusts Africans in their attempt to win honors next season.

‘There used to be a time when players from Africa were not considered good for even the replacement bench of a two-league club in Europe.

“It seems to have changed and I can only hope that African teams take advantage of this to build a very good group to do well during the FIFA World Cup in 2022.”

After the move from Matteo Guendouzi to Olympique Marseille and Dani Ceballos’ return to La Liga giants Real Madrid, the 21-year-old has been ordered to offer many options in Arteta’s midfield.

“I have seen him play a few times and trust me, his signing will strengthen the Arsenal squad,” Olorundare added.

‘He is skilled, young and fast, it will be a big advantage for the club, although he may struggle a bit with the adjustment, as this is his first time outside England.

Another advantage for Lokonga is that he will have the opportunity to learn from parties, Partey, Elneny and other established players that would make him better.

“Overall, I can say that Arsenal’s business during this transfer window is an indicator of what they mean when the season starts.”

Arsenal will start their top flight campaign in 2021-2 against Brentford at the Brentford Community Stadium on 13 August.
