The 28-year-old Black Star is expected to play a crucial role for the North Londoners who want to strive for top positions.
Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has finally got a new jersey number ahead of the 2021-22 Premier League campaign.
The former Atletico Madrid star, who joined the Gunners from the Spanish champions at the start of last season, will now wear the jersey number five.
Arsenal confirmed in a statement about their Official Website: “Thomas Partey will be the no. 5-shirt wear for the coming season, and change from the no. 18 which he wore after his arrival from Atletico Madrid in October.
Partey said about changing the number: “I like the number 5 because it is one of the most important numbers in the team and it is also a lucky number for me.”
The 28-year-old carries the same number for the Ghana national team, and it was also his favorite at Atletico Madrid.
He is expected to be a key figure for the Gunners in the new season, as Mikel Arteta intends to challenge for top positions.
The Spanish tactician signed the big money for 33 matches in all competitions in the 2020-21 campaign.
Partey is still waiting for a first goal for the Gunners, but does have three assistants to his name.
He hopes to take his match to greater heights in the next campaign, with so far only 18 Premier League.
Avoiding untimely injuries will be the key to these plans, with Arsenal needing stability and continuity if they are to break the shackles they can still withhold.
In a recent maintenanceSaid Partey about his first season at Arsenal, hoping for the immediate future: ‘Well, I think everyone saw it, there were ups and downs. We had good and bad times, but this is my first season and I think I had to adapt to how they play, get used to my teammates.
‘I think now I’m getting used to it and I know with hard work everything will be ready for next season.
“Of course it’s not easy. The Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world and if you want to be there you have to be able to do everything well. So I like this challenge and am ready to do anything.”
