The Inter Milan striker concludes a £ 98m return to Stamford Bridge, seven years after leaving the Blues
According to former Manchester City and England defender Danny Mills, Romelu Lukaku could be Chelsea’s new Didier Drogba if he finally completes his return to the Premier League club.
The Inter Milan star is expected to complete a major move to Stamford Bridge after helping the Nerazzurri win the Serie A title last season with contributions to goals.
In his previous three-year stint at Stamford Bridge, the Belgian star has struggled to form with just 10 Premier League appearances, without his goal.
Before his imminent return to London, Mills supported Lukaku to establish himself, as did the two-time African footballer of the year who scored 104 goals and delivered 55 assists in 254 Premier League games for the Blues.
“If Chelsea get Romelu Lukaku over the game, it could be a match changer for the season,” Mills said. Ladbrokes. ‘Suddenly you combine the expertise and organization of Thomas Tuchel with a Lukaku-quality goal scorer, someone with a guaranteed goal, a proven Premier League striker, and you suddenly think it can be a sensational venture.
‘Lukaku’s record – even at Manchester United – speaks for itself. If you play on his strengths, he is an absolute unit.
‘He could be Chelsea’s current Didier Drogba if you look at his pace, his strength and his record in front of goal. He has all the qualities. ”
The 44-year-old also commented on Manchester City’s new midfielder Jack Grealish following his £ 100m move from Aston Villa.
“I actually think Aston Villa did excellent business this summer,” Mills continued. ‘Yes, they lost Jack Grealish, but they were very smart to replace him. They knew Jack was going to leave, so they did their business early and brought in three or four new faces with the transfer money they got from Man City.
‘Grealish can be a fantastic signing, but where is he going to play? Ben White is a very good sign, a sharp sign. “
