Federico Pastorello also said that his client almost stayed in Milan because of the love shown by the fans
Romelu Lukaku’s agent Federico Pastorello claims he and his family are threatened over his involvement in the transfer of the striker from Inter to Chelsea.
Chelsea finalize £ 98m ($ 136m) signing of Lukaku from Inter this week, when the Belgian returned for a second period at Stamford Bridge.
In a statement issued on Friday, Pastorello said Lukaku’s departure from Milan had led to some ugly behavior on the part of some Inter fans.
What was said?
“I have always accepted confrontation and constructive criticism – and will continue to do so: it’s part of the game for those who play a role with significant media relevance,” Pastorello said.
‘What we absolutely cannot tolerate are the lies, insinuations, insults and threats we have received [also against my family and my daughters], which far exceeded the boundaries of civilization, decency, and tolerance.
‘Believe it or not, the love of the fans and the special bond with the city of Milan made him think about it for a long time: but when he made his decision, he continued with conviction and firmness.
‘The economic aspect is a detail, but it is not the most important factor that determines us and the choices of our customers.
With regard to FC Internazionale, I can guarantee that the CEO of Sport, Giuseppe Marotta, the Sports Director Piero Ausilio – as well as the coach Simone Inzaghi, who personally worked on this – did everything in their power to avoid this transfer.
“But there are circumstances that go beyond their decision-making range and depend on the owners’ instructions.”
What’s next for Chelsea?
The Blues begin their Premier League campaign on Saturday when they face Crystal Palace.
Lukaku will not be involved in the game against the Eagles, and could make his second debut in Chelsea next Sunday when the Blues take on Arsenal.
